Sterling Chemicals – Electronic Plant Log
Analyst/Programmer, Electronic Plant Logs — 2005
I was brought in specifically to support the plant-wide roll-out of Sterling’s electronic log application, a custom built, highly visible automation of the daily logging requirements for all production units in the plant. The daily logging requirements for a unit in a chemical plant are considerable including everything from personnel schedules, shifts, and call-outs to production rates, capacity, and shortages and everything in between.
Monitoring of Key Operating Parameters are also tracked with any variances flagged. Much of the KOP data was integrated with back-office database systems.
Morning summary reports were prepared so the wheels could be on top of any risky situations as soon as they arrived first thing in the morning.
The eLog programmer had taken ill just prior to implementation and the project could not be delayed. Sterling needed someone who they could depend on to smooth out any wrinkles that came up during what could be a month long implementation. They needed someone who could come in and hit the ground running without a long ramp-up period. They needed someone who could get the job done in three weeks instead of six. I delivered what they needed.
