Shell Services

Analyst/Developer for Executive Support Team — Nov. ‘95 to Apr. ‘96

This was my first venture into the world of contract consulting on IT projects after my and everyone else’s employment at Minet Insurance Services came to an abrubt end. I really didn’t know what to expect going in and this assignment could have gone better than it did. After six months at Shell Services I was ready to give up alltogether on the idea of working as a consultant.

Although I did some excellent work while at Shell Services, my boss was not a Happy Customer when I left after the initial six month contract was complete. She wanted me stay; I insisted on going. I had another “opportunity” that I hoped didn’t so closely resemble hell.

Here is what I did:

  • Performed total redesign and rewrite of large Lotus ViP application, improving interface and improving system performance by as much as ten times in some areas
  • Extensive third-tier support to company’s executive level support team
  • Developed procedures to implement Notes ViP application on new Win ‘95 clients (Yes, this was a long time ago.)
  • Assist in technical analysis of development and infrastructure issues concerning Notes v4.0 project designs
